Pathway Perspectives series – Innovation

As health care leaders, it’s not only important to be fully informed about industry changes, there is also a need to continuously analyze and update the way we approach these changes and the potential challenges that may arise.

Innovation

Faced with diminishing resources, decreased reimbursement and increased costs, leaders are challenged to look at their organization with “fresh eyes.” Leadership and innovation is about believing in what is possible. It is relating to change in a new way and doing what is needed to bring us closer to a desired outcome rather than the impossible. Innovation is not thinking different. It is doing something different. Innovation occurs when we have ownership and intent and when we learn to see problems and opportunities through the eyes of others. To innovate, leaders need to adapt ideas from outside their area of expertise as well as from outside the industry. Post-acute leaders across the nation are reviewing their current service delivery models, specialty programs, performance outcomes and bench strength of employees to respond to market demand and consumer needs for 2014 and beyond!
