Director of Nursing Basics Certification – 28 Hour Course
The Director of Nursing in skilled nursing facilities oversees the largest department in the organization. Having a good understanding of clinical, regulatory, and operational processes will be essential for success. This certification course will provide new directors of nursing with key nursing operational components of the DON position including regulatory guidance, human resource strategies, operational oversight and much more.
- Describe the scope, roles and responsibilities of the DON
- Describe the organizational planning necessary for a DON
- Verbalize the DON Role in budget management
- Identify how knowledge of regulations is essential for the DON
- Describe the role of the DON in the survey process
- Verbalize the components of the abuse prohibition program
- Describe the role of the DON in Emergency Preparedness
- Describe the essential steps in safety management of resident care.
- Identify key systems (Falls, Wounds, Infection Control, Pain, etc.) and how to ensure evidence-based policies and procedures as well as consistent implementation are instituted.
- Verbalize the requirements for Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program in the facility
- Verbalize the role of the DON in the admission process
- Discuss the role in oversight of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process, Medicare management, reimbursement and related documentation systems
- Review the DON role in the oversight of nursing documentation
- Describe the DON’s role in medication management
- Understand the impact of data using readily available CMS reports
- Verbalize the necessary key human resources need to know for the DON
- Verbalize the necessary staff education components
- Describe where to locate key industry guidance websites
- Describe the importance of relationships
- Verbalize key strategies for taking care of yourself in the role of the DON
Director of Nursing Resource Manual print version, included in the price of training
To earn the “Director of Nursing Basics Certification (DON-C) credential the participant must attend the entire workshop and complete the exam.
Materials are sent out 1 week prior to the start date of the class via email. The print manual will arrive prior to the start date, except for those registering within 2 weeks of the start date. Shipping of print manual can take 10-14 days. This is a virtual training via Zoom.
